JANNA BECKERMAN, PhD

  • Former professor and extension specialist at Purdue University for 20 years and University of Minnesota for 4 years.
  • Ph.D. in plant pathology from Texas A&M University
  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in biology from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry and Syracuse University.
  • Her best plant disease and insect photos were taken in her own backyard.

JESSE BENELLI, Ph.D.

  • More than 15 years of experience in the turfgrass industry
  • Previously served as Director of Turfgrass Programs for the Chicago District Golf Association
  • Holds both Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in Turfgrass and Plant Pathology from the University of Tennessee as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Science from Penn State University
  • Avid reader about the history of plant pathology
  • Reports to someone who killed his first set of greens at 15 years old
adam gore ADAM GORE, Ph. D.
  • 18+ years of experience in the turfgrass industry
  • Former Horticulture Extension Agent with Clemson University with focus in turfgrass agronomy and weed science.
  • Holds Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in Plant and Environmental Sciences from Clemson University as well as a Bachelor’s in Agricultural Education from Clemson.
  • Frequently wanders off from groups to looking for weeds
james hempfling

JAMES HEMPFLING, Ph.D.

  • 20+ years of turfgrass industry experience, including running a landscape business and working as an assistant superintendent in OK and NJ
  • Holds a BS from Oklahoma State and MS/PhD from Rutgers
  • Previously served as a Field Development Scientist with Bayer in California and Solution Development Manager with Envu in North Carolina
  • Built a sand-based bentgrass green in high school, sparking a lifelong passion for turfgrass science and the golf industry despite the green’s short-lived success


lindsey hoffman chappell LINDSEY HOFFMAN-CHAPPELL, Ph.D.
  • 20+ years of turfgrass industry experience, including working on golf courses in Massachusetts, Colorado, and Texas
  • MS and PhD from the University of Massachusetts in Plant and Soil Sciences
  • Previously served as a Field Development Scientist with Bayer and Area Sales Manager with Envu
  • Golfs, fishes, and hunts with her husband, who is a golf course superintendent in Texas
  • Spoils her dogs
zac reicher ZAC REICHER, Ph.D.
  • Former Turfgrass Specialist at Purdue University and University of Nebraska-Lincoln
  • 45+ years of turfgrass experience
  • Ph.D. in Agronomy/Turfgrass Science from Purdue University
  • Master of Science in Horticulture/Turfgrass Science from Iowa State University
  • Killed his first set of greens at 15 years old
